“Teaching new techniques and being a part of the excitement that every trophy brings is what I live for”

Ian offers an entire season of saltwater charters in Westport aboard our 29′ Defiance Pilothouse boats. Throughout the year, Ian can be found chasing halibut, lingcod, albacore tuna, steelhead and salmon. He spends the fall and winter months offering drift boat adventures on the Olympic Peninsula.

I have been a fisherman my entire life as I was raised in a family of Alaska commercial fisherman. Fishing is something I am very passionate about. I love sharing this great sport; introducing people to the wilderness fishing experience, teaching new techniques and being a part of the excitement that every trophy brings is what I live for.

The best part of the day is seeing the huge smiles on my clients’ faces as they catch their first salmon, first steelhead or maybe the biggest fish of their life.

My motivation for becoming a saltwater fly fishing guide is simple;  There is very little I love more than sharing these fisheries I love so much with others. It truly is the most rewarding experience I can think of.
I began fishing at the age of 4, and began fly fishing at the age of 15.  I have a wide range of fishing experience, from gear fishing in rivers for salmon, trout, and steelhead, to offshore ocean fishing for halibut, lingcod, salmon, rockfish and albacore tuna to fly fishing for all five species of Pacific salmon, sea run cutthroat, rockfish, lingcod, trout, sculpin, flounder etc.
There is nothing I enjoy more than spending time fly fishing the saltwater, and I want to make your experience one that you will remember and cherish. Above all else, fishing is supposed to be fun, and I will focus on making sure that is the case.  I am a laid back guy who enjoys laughing and having a good time!

I’ve been on the water as long as I can remember and some of my very first memories involve a fishing rod and reel. Coming from a family of commercial and sport fisherman I guess you could even say it’s in my blood.  Over the years I’ve been lucky enough to chase fish all across the country however my favorite region to fish is here, the Pacific Northwest.  The diversity and abundance of species we have in our backyard is quite amazing.  Steelhead and salmon, rockfish, halibut, trout, or the ever abundant albacore that visit our waters every summer.

If it swims in our waters, I’ve chased it!

Fishing is my passion and I love sharing it with others.  It’s an insight into a world that we don’t always get to see, it’s a chance to forget about everything else, catch some fish, share some laughs, and make memories that will last a lifetime.
